Holy Communion
The Lord's Supper
Eucharist
We welcome all baptized Christians who profess a belief in Jesus Christ to join us in Holy Communion. You do not need to be a member of Christ Church to share in communion.
We offer both wine and grape juice for our communion services to better meet the needs and preferences of our worshipers.
Throuhout the year we celebrate communion in a variety of ways at Christ Church, including:
Altar Communion - where we stand at the altar and receive the bread and
wine/grape juice (if you are unable to come forward to the altar, the
pastor and/or elders are more than happy to bring the elements to you
in your pew)
Pew Communion - where we remain in our pews and the bread and
wine/grape juice is brought to us
Upper Room Communion - celebrated on Maundy Thursday -
where we sit at table with one another in the upper room of our Fellowship
Hall and consume the bread and wine/grape juice after sharing in a light
meal together
Children and Communion
We recognize that there are differences in opinion within the Christian church as to when children may take communion. In Christ Church it is at the time of Confirmation that children and youth publicly profess their belief in Jesus Christ. We invite children of members who have not yet participated in the Rite of Confirmation to participate in Communion Classes prior to communing. We welcome baptized children who are visiting us from other churches to follow the teachings of your home church, and we will respect them here.
Children who are not partaking of the elements during the worship service may receive a blessing from the pastor if they so desire.
For more information about our views on children and communion, please contact the church office and request a Children and Communion Booklet.
To learn more about the theology of communion we invite you to share in the Communion Classes and/or the Exploring Faith Classes.
